About me

.......Continued .....
After completing my art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, I began to travel the world and search for what seemed to me to be a vital stimulus for my career.
One of the decisive milestones in my development was about to become very close. I visited Marc Chagall, my great role model in terms of color and original expression, in the small town of St. Paul de Vence in southern France. It was spring 1969.
He was in his studio working on the designs for the five enormous stained-glass windows in the cathedral (Frauenmünster) in Zurich. After I stayed in Vence for a few days and delighted him with my daily visits, he offered me the opportunity to assist him in the development of the 11-meter-high windows. I was speechless with joy and was absorbed in transferring his designs from the small-scale onto cardboard to their final full-size dimensions.
Later, I was also able to help in the glassworks with transferring the design to glass and coordinating the many individual components. I was able to absorb inexhaustible creative energy and took it with me on the long journey that still lay ahead of me.
I knew I couldn't linger too long, so I fulfilled a dream: to see the cultural heritage of the Mayans in Yucatan. In a flash, the sculpting instinct in me regained the upper hand, and it stayed that way.
In mid-1973, I began a very fruitful period as an assistant to my great role model, Henry Moore, in his studio north of London. These years were formative for my sculptural work, and I had my hands full trying to break away from the great role model and find my own unique formal language.
Step by step it worked very well.
I am very grateful to my great role models, but over the years I have been able to develop my own artistic expression very well.
